Breastworks on the Left Wing (Mathew Brady, July, 1863)

The stereograph shows two of Brady's photographers seated on the Union line at Gettysburg, according to a note on the verso. It is possible that one of Brady's assistants pictured here might be 12-yr-old William H. Tipton, the photographer Cyclorama painter Paul Philippoteaux hired two decades later to make a panorama of the landscape. (Library of Congress)
